PE 1000 Sheet Summary

Polyethylene PE 1000 sheet, commonly referred to as ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMW or UHMWPE), is one of the most popular engineering plastics. It provides excellent resistance to abrasion, chemicals, impact, and wear, and offers a very low coefficient of friction. UHMW is also non-toxic, odorless, and is highly resistant to moisture.

UHMW plastic sheet is commonly machined into wear strips, chain guides, and change parts, and is a popular engineering plastic in food processing and bottling operations. Specific grades of PE1000 are also used in bulk material handling applications to line chutes, hoppers, and dump trucks, helping to improve product flow and prevent issues like ratholing and arching.

Features

1. Improved Wear Resistance

Features extremely high abrasion resistance, which is invaluable in engineering. Among all plastics, its wear resistance is unmatched, outperforming metals like carbon steel, stainless steel, and bronze. Wear resistance increases with higher molecular weight.

2. High Impact Resistance

Impact strength peaks around a molecular weight of 2 million. Its large amorphous region effectively absorbs high impact energy, preventing cracks even under heavy strain.

3. Low Friction Coefficient

Highly wear-resistant with a low coefficient of friction and excellent self-lubrication. Ideal for bearing bushings, sliders, and linings, saving energy in dynamic equipment applications.

4. Chemical Resistance

Resistant to chemical corrosion; stable in all lye and acid solutions (except concentrated nitric/sulfuric acid). Stable in concentrated hydrochloric acid at 80°C, <20% nitric acid, <75% sulfuric acid, and liquid washing detergents. Note: Swells in aromatic or halogenated compounds under elevated temperatures.

5. Minimal Water Absorption

Extremely low water absorption rate. It is practically non-absorbent, does not swell in water, and offers significantly lower absorption rates compared to nylon.

6. Reliable Thermal Properties

Heat distortion temperature is 85°C (under 4.6kg/cm² load). Service temperature can reach 90°C under light loads. Retains excellent toughness and ductility at extremely low temperatures down to -269°C without embrittlement.

7. Electrical Insulation

Maintains outstanding electrical properties across a wide temperature range. Volume resistance is 10-18CM, breakdown voltage is 50KV/mm, and dielectric constant is 2.3. Very stable under temperature and frequency shifts.

8. Non-Toxic & Safe

Odorless, tasteless, non-toxic, and non-corrosive, offering physiological compatibility. Compliant with the FDA and USDA standards for direct food and medicine contact.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What is UHMWPE (PE 1000) sheet?

UHMWPE (Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene) is a high-performance engineering plastic known for its exceptional wear resistance, impact strength, self-lubricating properties, and resistance to chemicals and moisture.

Q: What makes UHMWPE superior to metals for sliding applications?

UHMWPE has a very low coefficient of friction, high self-lubrication, and outstanding wear resistance that often outlasts metals like carbon steel, stainless steel, and bronze in dry friction environments.

Q: Is the material safe for contact with food products?

Yes, UHMWPE is odorless, tasteless, non-toxic, and has physiological adaptability. It is approved by the FDA and USDA for direct contact with food and medicines.

Q: What are the standard dimensions and processing methods for the sheets?

The sheets are produced via a mold-press process. Standard sizes range from 1200x3000 mm up to 2100x6100 mm, with thicknesses starting from 10 mm up to 200 mm.

Q: Can UHMWPE sheets operate in extreme temperatures?
